Job Description
Birchlake Recruitment is delighted to be partnering with a banking organisation in the search for a Senior Risk Manager to join its growing risk function.
Reporting directly to the Chief Risk Officer, this newly created role provides an excellent opportunity to shape and develop the bank's second line risk oversight capability. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring the bank maintains a robust and proportionate risk management framework while supporting sustainable growth and delivering positive social impact.
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced banking risk professional to work within a values-led organisation, providing independent oversight, challenge and assurance across financial, prudential, market and operational risks, while working closely with senior leadership, Board Committees and UK regulators.
The Role
As Senior Risk Manager, you will support the Chief Risk Officer in overseeing the bank's risk profile, ensuring compliance with PRA and FCA regulatory requirements and embedding a strong culture of risk awareness across the organisation.
The role sits within the second line of defence and will provide independent challenge across key prudential risk disciplines, including credit, liquidity, treasury, market and operational risk. You'll work closely with Finance, Treasury, Credit and Savings teams while regularly engaging with senior committees including ALCO, Risk Committee, Audit Committee and the Board.
This is a newly created position, offering the opportunity to influence the future development of the bank's risk framework and, where required, deputise for the Chief Risk Officer.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the development, implementation and continuous improvement of the bank's enterprise-wide Risk Management Framework.
- Embed a strong risk culture that aligns with the bank's values, strategic objectives and agreed risk appetite.
- Review and challenge business initiatives to ensure appropriate consideration of risk and regulatory requirements.
- Assist in setting, monitoring and reporting against risk appetite statements, thresholds and limits.
- Produce high-quality risk reporting for Executive Management, Risk Committee, Audit Committee and the Board.
- Provide second line oversight across financial, prudential, market and operational risks.
- Oversee quantitative risk methodologies covering credit, liquidity, treasury, interest rate and market risk.
- Review stress testing and scenario analysis to ensure compliance with regulatory expectations.
- Provide oversight and independent challenge of liquidity and interest rate risk management.
- Review and challenge key regulatory submissions including ICAAP, ILAAP, Recovery Plan, Solvent Exit Analysis and Resolution Pack.
- Oversee operational risk reporting, departmental risk registers, incidents and remediation activities.
- Support oversight of operational resilience, outsourcing and third-party risk management.
- Oversee the Model Risk Policy, including monitoring, reporting and model validation where appropriate.
- Support the identification and management of climate-related financial risks.
- Monitor changes in PRA and FCA regulation and assess their impact on the bank.
- Support regulatory reporting processes, ensuring timely and accurate regulatory submissions.
- Build effective working relationships with the PRA, FCA, Internal Audit and external advisers.
- Assist with developing and monitoring the annual Internal Audit Plan.
- Deputise for the Chief Risk Officer where required and support strategic risk initiatives across the bank.
